2010-2011

The activities of 34th Series of SPP started in October 2010. The Council contacted experts from Indian Institute of Science and various R&D institutions in identifying thrust areas for selection of student projects.

Facts and Figures

The Council received about a 1000 project proposals from various disciplines from about 100 institutions in the State. These proposals were scrutinized by experts from Indian Institute of Science and other R&D institutions. After rigorous processing, 310 proposals were supported and sponsored with a total financial assistance of about Rs. 16 Lakhs.

Demonstration of the implemented projects were evaluated by experts. Based on methodology and final output, 103 projects were selected for exhibition and 63 projects for Seminar.

Seminar

The Council organised the 34th Series Seminar and Exhibition on 19th and 20th August 2011, at PES Institute of Technology and Mangement, Shimoga. The programme was inaugurated on 19th August 2011 at 10.00 AM by Dr. M. R. Doreswamy, Chairman, PES Group of Institutions, Bangalore. Sri. B. Y. Vijayendra, Director, PES Trust presided over the function. Prof. B. N. Raghunandan, Divisional Chairman, Energy and Environmental Sciences, Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, released the SPP Engineering Compendium. Smt. S. Y. Arunadevi, Joint Secretary, PES Trust released SPP Compendium on Biofuel Projects. Prof. S. Mohan Kumar, Secretary and Dr. M. Prithviraj, Executive Secretary, KSCST participated in the programme and encouraged the young engineers to take up more R&D related activities.

Seminars and Exhibition of selected projects were held in those two days. The projects exhibited were evaluated by a panel of scientists and engineers from Indian Institute of Science and National Aerospace Laboratories, Bangalore and other research organizations. In addition to these, special lectures were arranged. Dr. Swami Manohar, Managing Director, Limberlink Technologies Pvt. Ltd., Bangalore, delivered lecture on "Who is an Engineer?" on 19th August 2011. Technical lectures continued on 20th August 2011 with Dr. S. S. Mahant Katti, CEO, KARMIC, Manipal, delivering technical lecture on "Obligations of a 'Gifted' Person" and Dr. Mohan Kumar delivering a technical lecture on "Bridging gap between Industry and Academia". Both lectures were well received by the students and faculty and other people who attended the function.

Award

Valedictory programme was held on 20th August 2011 at 3.30 PM. Prof. B. K. Raghu Prasad, Former Chairman, Dept. of Civil Engineering and CCMD, Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, was the Chief Guest. Prof. K. A. Krishnamurthy, Principal, Sri Siddartha Institute of Technology, Tumkur, was the guest of honor. Dr. B. Yashovarma, Secretary, SDM Education Society, Ujire presided over the function. 8 projects were selected as best seminar projects, 12 projects as best exhibit projects . Under biofuel projects two projects was adjudicated as best projects and awarded. Prizes were distribued to award winning projects and colleges. The best performing college of the year award went to Vidya Vardhaka College of Engineering, Mysore.
