The activities of 32nd Series of SPP started in October 2008. The Council contacted experts from Indian Institute of Science and various R&D institutions in identifying thrust areas for selection of student projects.
The Council received about a 1000 project proposals from various disciplines from about 100 institutions in the State. These proposals were scrutinized by experts from Indian Institute of Science and other R&D institutions. After rigorous processing, 284 proposals were supported and sponsored with a total financial assistance of about Rs. 15 Lakhs.
Demonstration of the implemented projects were evaluated by experts. Based on methodology and final output, 78 projects were selected for exhibition and 68 projects for Seminar.
The Council organised the 34th Series Seminar and Exhibition on 4th and 5th September 2009, at National Institute of Technology, Karnataka, Suratkal. The programme was inaugurated on 4th September 2011 by Dr. H. E. Sri. H. R. Bharadwaj, Hon'ble Governor of Karnataka who also released the SPP compendium. Sri. Anand Vasant Asnotikar, Hon'ble Minister of Science and Technologies and Fisheries, Govt. of Karnataka, presided over the function. Prof. K. M. Kaveriyappa, Vice Chancellor, Mangalore University, was the guest of honor. Prof. S. Mohan Kumar, Secretary and Dr. M. Prithviraj, Executive Secretary, KSCST participated in the programme and encouraged the young engineers to take up more R&D related activities.
Seminars and Exhibition of selected projects were held in those two days. The projects exhibited were evaluated by a panel of scientists and engineers from Indian Institute of Science and National Aerospace Laboratories, Bangalore and other research organizations. In addition to these, special lectures were arranged. Prof. H. S Jamadagni, Centre for Electronics Design and Technology, IISC, Bangalore delivered a technical lecture on 19th August 2011. Technical lectures continued on 5th September 2009 with Prof. K. J. Vinoy, Dept. of Electrical Communication Engineering, IISC, Bangalore, delivering technical lecture on "Microsystems Technologies" and Prof. K. S. Rangappa, Dept. of Chemistry, Mysore University, Mysore, delivering one on "Bioactive Heterocycles as Chemotheraputics". Both lectures were well received by the students and faculty and other people who attended the function.
Valedictory programme was held on 5th September 2009 at 3.30 PM. Sri. B Nagaraj Shetty, Chairman, Coastal Development Authority, Karnataka was the Chief Guest. Prof. H. P. Kincha, Vice Chancellor, Visveswaraya Technological University, Belgaum, was the guest of honor. Prof. Sandeep Sancheti, Director, NITK, Suratkal presided over the function. 6 projects were selected as best seminar projects, 8 projects as best exhibit projects . Under biofuel projects one project was adjudicated as best projects and awarded. Prizes were distribued to award winning projects and colleges. The best performing college of the year award went to NMAM Institute of Technology, Nitte.
